La Ciccia

291 30th St. (at Church)
San Francisco, CA 94131
550-8114
Website
Massimiliano Conti, owner-chef-sommelier of the Bay Area's first Italian restaurant to specialize in the cuisine of Sardinia, is on a mission to acquaint San Franciscans with his home island's culinary pleasures. An ideal dinner here might start with a plate of Conti's housemade charcuterie, move on to tagliolini sauced with artichokes and bottarga (mullet roe), climax with a bowl of earthy, saffron-scented lamb stew, and wind down with a selection of Sardinian sheep and goat cheeses. The long, all-Italian wine list includes a selection of indigenous classics such as Vermentino, a tart and fruity white, or Cannonau (Grenache), a soft, aromatic red, as well as rare bottles and older vintages from other regions.
